My friends and I got to meet Boyz II Men at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center on February 15, 2015. They’re concert was everything we expected and more.

Hailing from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Boyz II Men (Shawn Stockman, Wanya Morris, and Nathan Morris) began their world tour in 2013, and luckily for Maui, we were a part of their journey. Their recent concert was everything a fan could want at the Maui Arts & Cultural Center’s Castle Theater, February 15.

Boyz II Men signed in 1988 and have been making music ever since. They became popular in the early ‘90s. By 1992, their single “End of the Road” had hit number one one charts worldwide and set a new record for longevity, staying at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 for thirteen weeks.

End of the Road” has always been a favorite of mine. In fact, when they sang it at the concert, I couldn’t even contain my emotions. Their live performance of this song sounded just like it did on their record. As did their other old songs.

There wasn’t much set up on the stage, which is what made the concert perfect. Their entire performance seemed natural, and their personalities shined. It was easy for local people to feel like there is no big difference between big-time Hollywood celebrities and us islanders.

During the night, they took time in-between songs to talk to the audience. They touched on their accomplishments throughout the years, but the one thing they emphasized the most was their gratitude for their fans, who have supported them through the years.

As the night went on, they continued singing fan favorites like “I’ll Make Love to You,” “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye,” “A Song for Mama,” “On Bended Knees,” and their cover of the song “Amazed” by Lonestar. They closed the night with “Motownphilly.”

After the concert, fans got to meet Boyz II Men for a $35.00 fee. They were given autographed backstage passes and were able to take a photo with the singers on their phones.

I grew up listening ’80s and ’90s music, and, yes, Boyz II Men is right up that alley. So, when it was finally my turn to meet them, I was crazy nervous! They’re my favorite R&B band of all time and always will be. The concert was a blast!
