The junior varsity girls volleyball Sabers defeated the Warriors in a 3-set match, 2-1, at Ka’ulaheanuiokamoku Gymnasium, Sept. 20.

The Sabers won the first set (21-12), the Warriors won the second (21-11), and the Sabers won the last set (21-15), giving them the overall win.

Freshman Kana Mateaki said, “We could’ve played better. We played…Maui High[‘s game], and we didn’t play our own game.”

Sophomore, Tatiana Martinez agreed that their performance could have been better. Things such as “talking around the court, knowing your rotation and where you’re supposed to be on the court” were some of the things that she said needed to be worked on.

Kana said they will work on communication with each other on the court and bettering their passes at this week’s practices.

The Maui Warriors’ next game will be Sept. 27, 4:30 p.m., at home, when they will play against Lahainaluna High School.
