‘Alice’ takes the stage
February 27, 2014
In a beautifully choreographed, sung and acted musical, the Kamehameha Schools Maui Drama Club shines in their newest spring musical, Alice in Wonderland.
Sophomore Aeris Joseph-Takeshita takes the lead as Alice.
“I’m normally in the background, so it’s cool to go from anyone to the one,” Joseph-Takeshita said.
In all, there are over 20 members of the cast and 7 members of the crew. The cast includes senior Sean Segundo, who plays the White Rabbit; senior Shane Borge, who plays the Mad Hatter; senior Justin Fernandez, who plays the Cheshire Cat and junior Carolynn Krueger, who plays the Queen of Hearts.
The play, directed by Speech and Theater teacher Ms. Victoria McGee, puts a unique spin on the classic story of the girl who falls through the rabbit hole.
“We have a different take on it than what people are probably used to,” Krueger said.
Costumes are definitely something to look out for during the play. Most were rented or handmade by Ms. McGee.
The chemistry of the Drama Club is obvious in the musical numbers and lines that fall in between. It’s performed with amazing energy by all the cast members.
“We’re really just one big happy family,” Ms. McGee said.
Catch this interpretation of Alice in Wonderland Friday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m. or in a matinee performance on Saturday at 3 p.m. in Keōpūolani Hale.
Admission is free, and the show is only playing for one weekend, so watch this magical musical while you can.

Missed out indeed! I really wish I could have seen it. It’s amazing to see how the theater program evolves from year-to-year. Congratulations everyone, especially to the seniors as this was their last performance. 🙂

GREAT JOB!!!
Great performances by all – including the techies. It was awesome to see so many students getting involved in this production. The costumes and make up were top notch. And, the music was live. Awesome! if you didn’t get to see this musical, you totally missed out.
