By Faith Owan, news editor
So, it’s Halloween. You don’t want to go trick-or-treating (you’re too cool for that), you don’t want to go out anywhere–you don’t want to do anything but sit in and watch some good Halloween movies. But what to watch? Here are five movies to watch on Halloween night that aren’t so horrifically violent or scary, but can add the perfect touch of Halloween spirit and spookiness to an evening spent chilling out at home.
Corpse Bride
This classic claymation movie from Tim Burton (and co-director Mike Johnson), who is known for his involvement with, creation of, and skillful execution of all things dark and strange, is perfect for Halloween. The images are captivating--there's nothing quite like the texture that clay can give--and the storyline is whimsical, spooky, and of course, fun. The dark slant on romance in this movie...
Harry Potter
Eight whole movies bubbling with witches, wizards, spells, creeping creatures, deadly dark lords, and a mysterious castle as a school--sounds perfectly Halloween-y to me! While you could watch any of these Harry Potter movies and get a Halloween vibe, the first installment is probably the lightest of the movies, good for some classic Halloween fun, while the last installment of the series is defin...

Stuffed to the brim with unique characters, stunning sets made from clay, charming songs, and whimsical, dark wonder, this film is a classic to watch on Halloween night. This beloved movie is another creation that c...
It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown
Ah, the Charlie Brown cartoons. These classic shows are clever, funny, entertaining, get that catchy tune stuck in our heads, and sometimes even teach a moral. This Halloween special is only 25 minutes, but it packs a punch in its limited screen time. The familiarity of this show and the skillful capturing of the very essence of Halloween is what makes this cartoon so memorable--and so lovable. It...
Coraline
This movie is the third and final claymation film to hit the top five list for Halloween movies and would probably sweep the other two if compared on the creepy scale. This movie is fun to watch for its entertaining, thought-provoking storyline and dazzling visuals, but its dark tone is what gives it such a unique character. The mysterious aspects of this movie, along with the strange play on a not-so-fake-after-all...
