On Saturday March 12, 2011, the Kamehameha Maui Warriors boys volleyball team faced the Baldwin Bears at the KS Maui high school gym. The game bounced back and forth over five sets. In the end, the Bears were victorious, leaving the Warriors with their first loss of the season.
Sophomore Warrior Kekoa Uyechi served for nine points in a row in the first set, but the set ended in a loss of 21-25.
The Warriors came back and led throughout the second set with a 25-22 win.
The Bears dominated the third set and won 25-13.
But in the fourth set, the Warriors came from behind and won 25-18, taking the game into its fifth set, where the Bears closed it out 15-9.
The Warriors were tough at the net with many blocks by sophomore Kahiau Andrade and seniors Corbin Iaea and Hinano DeLima.
After a battling all night, the Warriors were showing some wear and tear by the fifth set and couldn’t close the gap once the Bears started their final push. “We could have played harder and won,” Iaea said.
