JV basketball: Sabers score win
The Sabers scored a win in junior varsity boys basketball against the Warriors last night at the Maui High gym with a final score of 57-41.
The game went by slowly with the Maui Warriors and Sabers staying neck-and-neck, ending the first quarter 8-5 with the Sabers in the lead.
Maui High picked up the pace during the second quarter with Kamehameha trailing behind and trying to keep up. With less than a minute left in the quarter, sophomore Mark Ranches of the Sabers stole the ball and passed to sophomore Feleti Afemui who scored, ending the first half at 25 Sabers and Warriors, 17.
During halftime, Maui High cheerleaders performed a routine to various songs to keep the crowd going during their spirit week while they waited for the players to come back.
After halftime, Maui High came back with no intention of holding back. The Sabers scored 20 more points, allowing the Warriors to score only 12, and the third quarter ended with the score 45-29.
In the fourth quarter, the Warriors stepped up their game, with freshman Austin Peters scoring the majority of the shots, and the score was 50-34 with three minutes to go.
As the clock counted down, the Sabers and Warriors traded possessions ball back and forth. With less than a minute to spare, Peters gave the Warriors another three-point shot, ending the game at 57-41, Sabers.
The jv Warriors’ next basketball game will be tomorrow against the Bears at the Baldwin gym starting at 6:00 p.m.
