Ten seniors completed the signing of their national letters of intent for college at the Charles Reed Bishop Learning Center, Wednesday, April 25, 2018.
Niya Matutino – Southwestern Oregon College for college wrestling.
Kailani Kealoha – Northwestern Oklahoma St. University for college soccer
Sydnie “Napua” Gushiken – American International College for volleyball.
Jasmine Marie Corn – Culver-Stockton College for college volleyball.
Kawehi Flores-Akiona – Pacific University for college football.
Kela Kauha’aha’a – Louisiana State University Shreveport for Olympic weightlifting.
Daniel Kapua – Menlo College for Olympic weightlifting.
Micah Au-Haupu – St. Martins University for college track and field.
Ashley Taylor Peralta – Wenatchee College for college basketball.
Kimani Fernandez-Roy – University of Alaska Anchorage for college basketball.
Family, friends and faculty were there to celebrate the occasion. Coach Ulima Afoa and Po`o Kumu Lance Cagasan gave a speech to the athletes and family, and close family members were asked to stand behind the students as they signed.
Students were also invited to say a few words, and most of them used that time to thank people who helped them along the way.
“Volleyball has had a huge impact on my life… I’m glad that I have been given the opportunity to play at the next level & also grateful that it’s helping me further my education. To my fellow classmates that I signed with, I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of you. I know you guys will do great things and remember that you guys can do anything you put your mind too,” Corn said.
Once the ceremony was over the students and their families gathered to celebrate their commitment to their colleges.
