Lahainaluna High School took the win, 5-3, at the last junior varsity baseball game yesterday at the Eddie Tam fields. Although the boys were disappointed to end the season on a bad note, they “worked together until the end,” said sophomore player Logan Cabanilla-Aricayos.

The Warriors made 31 plate appearances while the Lunas had 34. The Warriors placed Cabanilla-Aricayos, Tristan Catan, Jace Baqui, and Jordan Mitsumura at bat four times; Dana Bui, Justin Shiffler, Duke Kabota, and Trystan Ah Yat at bat three times; and Makana Saito-Takabayashi, Tyler Toshikito, and Kahiau Luat-Hueu at bat once.

Baqui scored two home runs and two singles, Catan scored one home run and one double, and Mitsumura scored one home run and one single for the Warriors. Pitching alternated between Baqui,  Shiffler, and Ah Yat throughout the game. Altogether the Warriors ended with four home runs, three singles, and one double.

The Lunas placed K. Keoholoa, K. Watson, N. Ko, K. Kailiaau, R. Bush, P. Wright, and S. Felice at bat four times while L. Amby and L. Kalawaia were at bat three times. Overall, the Lunas scored six home runs from Keoholoa (2), Ko (1), Bush (1), Wright (1), and Kalawaia (1). Additionally, the Lunas had 5 singles from Keoholoa (2), Bush (1), Wright (1), Kalawaia (1) and one double from Ko.

“They played good baseball today, they just couldn’t hit,” said coach, Jarin Hayase. The Warriors has several opportunities to take the lead in the final inning, getting on first after a Luna error early in the inning, but in the end, the Luna’s fielders shut Kamehameha down, stranding two.

At the end of the season, the coaches and team said they are proud of the progress they’ve made since the beginning.
