Filling the audience with the spirit of Christmas, the Kamehameha Schools Maui, Elementary, Middle and High Schools sang in Christmas at Our Hale, a Christmas concert in Keōpuolani Hale, Dec. 13, 2012.
“Over the past few years I have seen the concert grow more and more. The environment was very warm and comforting,” senior Kalaʻi Yap said.
The night started with a chilling performance of His Eye Is on the Sparrow by seniors Neʻula ʻAʻarona and Sarah Aiwohi accompanied by Kahea Arrieta.
Following this performance the Hawaiian Ensemble graced the stage with their performance of The Prayer and an instrumental rendition of Carol of the Bells by Aaron Dela-Cruz, Chayce Tancayo and Maleko Lorenzo.
Later the high school chorus sang Carols, Rejoice! and The Lord Bless You and Keep You accompanied by Arrieta.
During the concert the audience was asked to sing along with songs, like Iesū E Komo Mai, Mele Kalikimaka and Betelehema Iki E (O Little Town of Bethlehem).
The elementary school after school choir later put on their smiling faces and sang No Mo’ Christmas Blues originally performed by Frank Delima and the Honolulu Boy Choir.
The middle school Papa Mele participated in the concert by performing their rendition of Jingle Bell Rock, which included a jazz dance.
“I am so glad that the Elementary and Middle School got to participate like they do every year. It gave it more of a home feeling,” said Kumu Kalei ʻAʻarona-Lorenzo, one of the event coordinators.
This annual concert was part of another installment of Ka Huliau, a showcase of performances and films that have an impact on Hawaiians.
