Furikake Rice Krispie treats are a salty and sweet dessert consisting of ingredients such as furikake and arare crackers. This sweet treat is reminiscent of the popcorn I eat on movie nights with my family and friends!
Ingredients
- Neutral oil
- 4 ½ cups Rice Krispies cereal
- 1 cup Mixed arare crackers
- 1 ½ tablespoons black sesame seeds
- 3 cups large marshmallows
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- ¼ cup furikake
- ¼ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Grease and line an 8×8-inch or 9×9-inch pan with parchment paper
- Combine the Rice Krispies cereal with the mixed arare crackers in a large bowl
- Toast the sesame seeds over medium heat in a small pan. This usually takes 2-3 minutes. It’s done when the seeds emit a faint aroma.
- Measure out the marshmallows and set aside before melting the butter. To melt the butter place the butter in a large bowl over medium heat. When the butter is melted lower the heat and keep the butter on the stove for 1 to 2 minutes or until a nutty golden brown color is achieved.
- Turn off the heat and quickly pour the marshmallows into the pot and begin stirring. Once the marshmallows are completely melted add the sesame seeds and stir until they’re mixed in.
- Add half of the cereal mixture and furikake to the pot and mix to incorporate. Then repeat the process with the remaining mixture until evenly combined.
- Move the mixture into the baking dish and pat it down evenly.
- Allow the treats to cool for 10 minutes.
- In the meantime, fill a small pot with water over medium heat. Place a heat-safe bowl over the top of the pot and add in the chocolate chips. Stir the chocolate chips until completely melted.
- Once completely melted, use a spoon to drizzle the chocolate over the treats.
- Let the chocolate cool and cut the treats into squares. Enjoy!
