The Warriors mixed paddling crew placed 5th at the First Hawaiian Bank State Championship regatta yesterday, February 1, at Ke’ehi Lagoon on O’ahu.

The team was composed of seniors Hiʻilei Casco, Mehana Fisher, Kauanoe Vanderpoel, Elijah Won and Tianna Yonemura and junior Ionatana Tua. Their time was 4:00.90.

“I thought we did really good this season,” Tua said. “I am really proud of my crew.”

After coming in third in their first qualifying heat, the team placed first in the semifinals and earned their place in the finals.

Along with the mixed crew, the boys crew also attended the championships, but scratched themselves from the semi finals after a last-place finish in the qualifying heat. Won said that it was a strategy to save the strength of the boys (himself and Vanderpoel) for the mixed crew.

The boys team was made up of Keoni Frampton, Isaac Kala, Kekoa Meanor, Dustin Tacdol, Vanderpoel and Won.
